Breaking the Sound Barrier officially launches today

Today marks a huge milestone, the release of Breaking the Sound Barrier: The Caleb McDuff Story.
At just 17, Caleb has already carved out a unique place in motorsport. From Pontypool, South Wales, he is the UK’s only deaf racing driver competing at a professional level. Diagnosed profoundly deaf at the age of two, he communicates through lip-reading and cochlear implant technology. Against the odds, he has gone from grassroots karting to racing a McLaren GT4 with Team BRIT, the world’s first competitive racing team made up exclusively of disabled drivers.
The book tells that story. The highs, the lows, the heartbreak of early diagnosis, the grind of karting paddocks, and the pride of standing on the podium. It’s about resilience, family, and proving that nothing is impossible with enough determination.
Caleb says:
“I’ve been behind the wheel since I was four years old, but people always told me racing at such a high level wasn’t possible because I’m deaf. This book is about proving them wrong, and I hope it shows other deaf children, and their families, that anything is possible if you don’t give up.”
His dad, Ian, co-author and Caleb’s manager explains how it began:
“This project started out as my personal notes, just reminders of the stories that made Caleb’s journey so remarkable. Friends and family encouraged me to share them more widely, to tell Caleb’s story.”
Breaking the Sound Barrier is out now. Signed copies are available here alongside standard editions, with a collector’s version planned.
This is more than motorsport , it’s proof that barriers can be broken.
